Mary and Max

“Mary and Max” is a really good animation. It’s not easy to describe it in several words because it has special extraordinary atmosphere, it’s funny and artistic, and it’s full of positive and creative scenes. “Mary and Max” shows interesting characters speaking with adorable accents, funny animals living in Australia. This animation is a kind of tragic comedies reflecting the dark and light sides of people’s life. Using made-up characters the movie reproduces urgent problems. “Mary and Max” is a masterpiece with great and unique story.

The animation director is Adam Elliot. He won Oscar in 2003 for his legendary short animation “Harvey Krumpet”. Elliot is a famous Australian figure. He started his career with three tragic-comedies: “Uncle”, “Brother” and “Cousin”. They were made when Adam was a student of Melbourne College. He studied Arts. “Mary and Max” became his next work where he implemented all ambitions and skills of young master.

“Mary and Max” is an unusual movie. It started with a girl reading the phone book and looking for casual name to write him a letter. The story is touching and emotional. Doogal recommends it to every of you!

Mary Daisy Dinkle is a lonely eight-year-old girl. She lives in Australia in an unhappy family. She has no friends and dreams of finding at least one person to share her problems. One time she takes an office phone book and starts looking for someone to write him a letter. He meets an American named Max Jerry Horovitz. He lives in New York so Mary decides to write him. Here the strange transcontinental friendship begins!

Both of friends have personal problems and complexes. Mary feels lonely, she looks like poop. Her mother is cruel; her father has left the family. Max is a fat man who has problems. He has no friends in real life and only Internet helps him to communicate with somebody. Though these two people have many problems, their hearts are really kind and bright. Max is pretty talented:

Max Jerry Horovitz: I have also invented some new words. “Confuzzled”, which is being confused and puzzled at the same time, “snirt”, which is a cross between snow and dirt, and “smushables”, which are squashed groceries you find at the bottom of the bag. I have sent a letter to the Oxford Dictionary people asking them to include my words but I have not heard back.
